                                          Responsible for teaching courses in the Department of Sociology, including Principles of Sociology, Cultural Diversity in American Music, and Organizations in American Life. Current research agenda includes identifying "master status" musicians and their influences on other musicians through the use of GIS mapping.

                                          Responsible for teaching courses in three disciplines: social science, marketing/public relations, and communication technology.  As part of the senior faculty responsibilities included: developing curriculum, mentoring junior faculty, and teaching courses in sociology, social equity and diversity, multiculturalism, public relations, publishing seminar, electronic publishing, music appreciation, US History, E-commerce (graduate level), psychology and web design.  Administrative activities included implementing and managing a web design/Internet technology certificate program and new course sequence and minor concentration for the electronic page, desktop publishing and multi-media production.  Served as student advisor, curriculum committee, recruitment advisor, in-house advertising and printing agency, and Web meister from 1995-2000.

                                              Captain (summer season)

                                          Charter-service Captain, holding a United States Coast Guard 100 Tons Unlimited Passengers – 200 mile – Near Coastal Waters license with sail and tow endorsements.  Responsibilities include: managing daily operations of the sailing charter company and captain of s/v Viva, a 1939 46' B T Dobson cutter.  With over 30 years of sailing experience, teaches sailing at all levels.  (www.sailbelfast.com)  Teaches USCG Licensing courses through American BoatSchool, Mystic, CT.

1989 – 1995                     D&D Marketing, Inc. – Orono, Maine

                                          D&D Marketing: d\b\a The Media Shop & Auntie M's Guide for Bargain Hunters.  Responsible for all phases of physical and financial operations of Orono's only privately owned full service computerized desktop publishing, off-set printing, audio/visual/multi-media production and photocopying business.  Auntie M's was a bi-monthly publication started in December 1990, with a circulation of 10,000 copies per issue distributed throughout the greater Bangor area to over 450 locations.  Flexible working staff of 3-6.

 

1986 – 1989                     Laserset Publishing Center – Doylestown, Pennsylvania and Norristown, Pennsylvania

                                          Responsible for start-up and all phases of operation of a company with two retail stores and six satellite centers specializing in the design and production of printed materials.  Laserset pioneered the technology of desktop publishing to establish a niche in the competitive Philadelphia printing market. Staff of 6.

 

1984 – 1986                     Goodway Marketing, Inc. – Jenkintown, Pennsylvania

                                              Project Coordinator/Executive Producer

                                          Responsible for all phases of television, radio, and audio productions, national/regional/local spot and block media buys and syndication for a national marketing holding company with twenty-three separate businesses.  Activities included: working with clients and outside agencies for advertising/public relations support, script writing and editing.  Supervised a full time staff of 5 and free-lance crews as required.  Also worked as the writer/producer/director for numerous national cable programs.  Staff of 3-10.

 

1981 – 1984                     Teleimage, Inc. – Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania

                                              President and CEO

                                          Responsible for start-up, construction and operation of Philadelphia's second-largest independent television/audio production company.  Implemented venture capital plan.  Capital equipment and physical plant valued at $4.5 million.  TI introduced computerized animation to the Philadelphia market.  The production facility included a 30'x40' studio, state-of-the-art editing suites, field production and 8-track audio studios.  Supervised a staff of 24 plus free-lance crews as required.  Also worked as the producer/director for selected accounts.  Staff  10.

 

1979 – 1981                     Hubert Wilke, Inc. – New York, New York

                                              Design Engineer

                                          Responsible for base building and facilities design for television studios, audio studios, and "rf" and baseband distribution systems for an international design firm.  Clients served were in the top Fortune 100 companies.

 

1970 – 1979                     Virginia Community College System – Richmond Virginia

                                              Lecturer and Instructional Technologist

                                          Taught courses including: first and second year biology laboratory, Introduction to AV Media, Introduction to Photography, Beginning Banjo, Beginning Guitar, Advanced Banjo, and Advanced Guitar.  Responsible for all media production and related services at Lord Fairfax Community College (1970 - 1974) and Thomas Nelson Community College (1974-1979).  Including public relation and advertising materials, instructional package design, equipment scheduling and delivery.  Production services included: television studio, audio studio, B/W print and color slide darkroom, print shop and graphic design.  Supervised a staff of 3.  Responsibilities also included faculty training of effective use of AV media in the classroom and the development of systematic instructional programs.

SailViVA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing sailing opportunities to connect people of all ages, abilities, and means to the world’s oceans through educational and recreational programs that stimulate individual growth and instill an enduring love and appreciation of the sea and to ensure that ViVA is maintained as a historic racing yacht for others to enjoy for all generations to come.  www.sailviva.org

 

1994 – 1999                     F.O.L.K., Inc. (Focus On Local Knowledge) – Newburgh, Maine

                                          F.O.L.K. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization chartered to support preservation, dissemination and education about folk practices specifically relating to living history, performance and visual arts.  F.O.L.K. was an active member of the Greater Bangor Arts Council, organizes local venues for underserved music, and produced Mainely Bluegrass, a 26-part bluegrass music program.  F.O.L.K. has also successfully worked with local organizations to secure grant funding to better serve the Waldo County community.

                                          Instruments: 5-string banjo, guitar, mandolin, bass fiddle, mountain dulcimer, autoharp and voice.  Inducted into America’s Old-Time Country Music Hall of Fame (2005).
